Precision-laid surfaces that stay flat under Adelaide's clay
A paved surface is only as good as what's underneath it. Adelaide's reactive clay soils move with the seasons, and paving laid on a thin or poorly compacted base telegraphs that movement within a couple of summers — dips at the car wheels, rocking pavers, jointing washed out.
We build driveways and paved areas from the ground up: excavation to design depth, geofabric where clay demands it, compacted quarry road base in controlled layers, screeded bedding sand and pavers laid to string lines with proper edge restraint. Clay pavers, large-format porcelain, natural stone and permeable systems are all in our range.

The finish is decided under the pavers
A driveway carries a tonne and a half of car over the same wheel paths every day. What keeps it flat for twenty years is not the paver — it's the 100mm-plus of compacted road base under it, screeded bedding sand, and edges restrained so nothing walks sideways. We compact in lifts and plate-test as we go; it's slower, and it's why our older driveways still look screeded.
Adelaide's clay movement shows up in paving as winter heave and summer gaps. The counter is a properly drained base and jointing sand that locks — details you can't see in the finished photos, which is exactly why we photograph our bases too.
Materials that suit this climate
Clay pavers hold their colour through UV that fades cheap concrete units in five summers. Large-format porcelain wants a near-perfect base but rewards it with a floor-flat finish. Exposed aggregate concrete splits the difference for big areas. We'll lay out the trade-offs per area and use — path, patio, or driveway are three different engineering problems.

How much does paving cost per m² in Adelaide?
Installed paving in Adelaide typically ranges from $95–$140 per m² for standard clay or concrete pavers on prepared base, up to $180–$250 per m² for large-format porcelain or natural stone with full driveway-grade preparation. Driveways cost more than paths because the base depth and compaction requirements roughly double. We quote fixed after measuring the site.
Why do driveways need a deeper base than paths?
A pedestrian path carries a person; a driveway carries a two-tonne vehicle turning on the same spot daily. On Adelaide's reactive clays we excavate driveways to at least 250 mm, use 150 mm of compacted road base minimum, and often add geofabric separation so the base can't pump into wet clay. Skipping this is why cheap driveways dip at the wheel tracks.
Can you match or extend my existing paving?
Usually, yes. Most major Australian paver ranges remain in production for years, and where a line has been discontinued we can source close matches or lift-and-relay a border so the transition reads as intentional rather than patched.
Permeable paving — is it worth it?
On sites with stormwater constraints or council WSUD requirements, permeable paving lets rain soak through the joints into a drainage layer instead of running off. It costs 15–25% more than standard paving but can remove the need for extra stormwater infrastructure. We'll tell you if your site is a genuine candidate.
